MLC's Signet Breeding Services is part of the Meat and Livestock Commission's Technical Division.  Signet is responsible for delivering breeding evaluations to the sheep and beef sector throughout the UK.

Commercial sheep and beef producers are coming under increasing pressure to manage their businesses more efficiently and produce a product that meets market requirements.  This means that producers need to breed fast growing stock, which produce well muscled, lean carcases at an appropriate carcase weight.
   

The identification and utilisation of superior breeding stock is an excellent way in which to meet these objectives.  The selection of improved breeding stock provides both a permanent and cumulative way in which livestock producers can improve the output and financial return from their flocks and herds.
